THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES TO COMPREHEND ADVERB IN ENGLISH SENTENCES AT SMAN 3 PALANGKA RAYA

The principle purposes of the study are to describe some cases, as follow: what are the tenth grade students’ difficulties at SMAN 3 Palangka Raya in the comprehend adverb in English sentences and to discribe the causes of the tenth grade students’ to comprehend adverb in English sentences. The research methodology used descriptive statistic, which is the writer wanted to know the description factual problem of students’ to comprehend adverb of manner, place and time. The data collection used observation, test, interview and documentation. The data analysis used data collection, test, and conclusion. The subjects of the study were 25 students from X-1 class.
The results of the study were: Students got the problems on the answer questions of adverb of manner, place and time as follow: The students’ have the problem in comprehending adverb of manner, place and time. The students’ problem to comprehend adverb of manner, place and time into some factors they were from internal factors; such as; physiological factor, intelligence, interest, motivation, maturation and cognitive ability and also from external factor. The students do not know to change of adverb, they consider that all adverb of manner was ended by –ly. In the adverb of place , they had limited vocabulary. And for the adverb of time they faced to comprehend of the used time and tenses. Beside that, in the teacher teach in the class was not clear and the teacher could not control the class is noisy.
Based on the test was given. There are 2 students (3,07%) got the poor score the score was 66, 3,07% (2 students) got fair score, the score was 21 and 93,86% got the fail score. The indicate, their ability in writing used adverb of manner, place and time was low. Based on the interview which done to 10 students to know the difficulties faced by the students, there were 8 students stated that they feel difficul to comprehend adverb of manner, place and time and the rest was 2 students: they did not feel difficult to comprehend adverb of manner, place and time.
