ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION PROBLEMS OF THE JAVANESE STUDENTS OF TBI OF STAIN PALANGKA RAYA

AYUDWITASARI. The principle purposes of the study were; (1) to investige the way of English Javanese Students in pronuncing consonant English symbols, 2) to investige the problems of English Javanese Students in pronuncing consonant English word and (3) to describe the solutions used solve the problems.
The writer used qualitative approach with qualitative method. In collecting the data, the writer used some techniques, namely:(1) Interview, and (2) Documentation. In analyzing the data, the writer used some techniques, namely: (1) Data collection, (2) Data reduction, (3) Data Display, and (4) Conclusion / Data Verification. The subjects of the study were ten students that consisted of english Javanese students .To take the subjects, the writer used purposive sampling.
The result of the study, as follows:
(1)Mispronunciation of some commonly used English words because of the influence of Javanese dialect, lack of knowledge of the Standard English pronunciation,and lack of practice.
(2)Transfer the Javanese into English which was of course not correct. And this cause of misunderstanding to hearer such as :
a.Replacement of / p / with / b / was also investigated in Rope and
Robe. (bilabial)
b.Replacement of / f / with / v / was also investigated in believe and
Belief (labiodental)
c.Replacement of /s / with / z / was also investigated in nose
d.Replacement of / θ / with / ð / was also investigated in mother.
e.Replacement of /d/ and /t/ was also investigated get and bad
From the results of the study some conclusion can be drawn as follows:
a./m/, /n/ , /l/, r/ j/ were easier for the student to pronounce than / θ /
/ ð/p/,b,/ ect
b.The students employs transfer strategis when they found difficulties in pronouncing / p / with / b / f / with / v, / s / with / z / t/d.
